I had on a white shirt and my pajama bottoms. And then Neko came out all excited that she’d put on a white shirt and pajama bottoms. Of course, then Shep and Ellery had to get in on the act.

And I was all like, “We should get a photo of this!”

    Things I’ve learned:

    1. Our kitchen at night has hopeless lighting.
    2. I should probably adjust the settings before I hand Tom my camera in hopeless lighting.
    3. Our kids never stand still.
    4. This may be as good as our family photos get.

Ellery finally is getting in on some kitchen action.

She did a stupendous job de-seeding tomatoes until that part where she slipped on the stool and somehow took a big chunk out of her finger. I'm not sure how she did it, as all the moving parts are internal to the machine.

If she had been my first child, we would have zipped off to the emergency room. As my third? A quick disinfection, a couple band-aids, and some couch snuggling got us back in business in no time.

Neko decided this was a great sleeping space for Ellery. We actually a bit surprised it took them this long to come up with this idea.

Sheesh. I’m feeling like Boring Mom these days. Every time I turn around, Tom is doing something fun and inventive with the kids. Today while I was putting together the shards of my sanity, he held a car wash with the kids.

Watermelon. Car washes. Never know what you might get yourself into when you head down our driveway…

When I was little I desperately wanted freckles. My tomboy self thought nothing would have suited me better than some summer sun, places to explore, and a face full of freckles.

Today I looked down at Ellery and noticed the summer sun has spread a sprinkle of across her nose, and omigosh they are adorable. And I’m only just a little bit envious.

Yesterday, out of the blue, Shep announced that he wanted to make dinner. He said he would be making peanut butter and jelly, bananas, and apples.

I managed to convince him to substitute blueberries for the apples (too hard to cut). But then he did it, all three plates by himself.

Not to be outdone, Neko demanded to make dessert.

Some days they drive me to the edge, but what would I do without these beautiful children?

With the impending arrival of her cousin Pierson to our neck of the woods, Ellery has been just a wee bit excited. She's been carrying around a picture that Barb left behind, giggling about Baby Pierson.

(Don't worry, Baby Joe, there's still plenty of room left in the spotlight for you.)

Today was a very rainy day where Ellery and I accompanied Neko's class on a very rainy field trip.

Ellery could hardly contain herself when she got to ride the bus with the big kids (I know she doesn't look excited in the photo, but trust me, she was).

She tagged right along like she was a kindergartner, eyes wide, holding tightly to my leg. An old soul, that one.

You know, where Shep spends time brushing his non-existent hair (out of frame) and Ellery walks around wearing my undergarments.
