Apparently, we should have only bought him half a bed.

Neko loves to dress up. And for ages, she has been trying to con someone else into dressing up with her. Thankfully, Shep is now sometimes on board.

Today they kept disappearing into Neko’s bedroom and then reappearing as new characters. Pictured are my personal favorites, the twin turtles. It should be noted that Shep is squeezed into a costume meant for a kid who’s not even two.

Thanks to Chris, who grabbed my camera off the counter and started snapping back at these turtles.

One of our town’s best kept secrets is the local sports auditorium. There’s an unspoken agreement with the folks that work there. Feel free to come run around in our space while it’s not in use as long as your treat it gently. So where, during games, the area surrounding the arena is full of fans and food vendors, we get to use it for soccer and running in circles. As the weather gets colder, we go here more often.

Today was kind of cold and grey, so with Neko in preschool, we took the boys and the babies. Shep and Chris ran and kicked balls and Ellery and Alex crawled to their hearts content without an obstacle in their way.

I feel remiss in documenting Shep’s drawing. His drawings don’t really look like anything yet, but he’s definitely gaining control, and he’s not just scribbling anymore.

While Neko was in school, Susie and I took the Shep, Chris, Alex and Ellery to the mall. Susie needed to drop off her computer to sneak in a few repairs before the warranty expires in a few days and the whole thing implodes.

However, you can only schedule one of those Genius appointments 48 hours in advance, so we were at the mercy of the Standby Appointment.

Shep and Chris spent over an hour running, jumping, crawling and giggling down by where the old Panera used to be. We rewarded their patience with chocolate milk. Susie and I rewarded our patience with eggnog lattes.

It’s been raining like crazy around here, which, of course, coincides with the time we’re surrounded by perfect fall leaves. Susie and I took advantage of the break in the weather to hustle the kids out for a long walk on campus and take some photos.

In between running noses and hacking coughs, we were able to snap a few shots.

Drawing by Shep, channelling Jackson Pollock. I think I probably owe my mom a new blue marker, because I don’t think Crayolas are supposed to have that splatter effect.

Letter R by Neko, attempting (unsuccessfully) to teach Shep how to draw it.

I feel like I’m not doing as good a job as keeping track of Shep’s stuff as I did of Neko. I know this just happens when you have a second child, but I still feel guilty.

Anyway, today Shep and Neko were drawing on the Aquadoodle, and she started drawing letters. And then, all of a sudden, she was teaching Shep to draw a letter B. She does this sort of thing a lot, and if he’s able, he gives it a whirl, but it’s often pretty complex for a 2.5-year-old.

But suddenly Neko starts yelling, “He did it! He drew a B!”

And lo and behold, he did. Here it is Shep, your first letter.

(Of course, you drew it on an Aquadoodle, so it faded away about a minute later, so don’t go looking for it in your memory box.)

  • For loan or short-term lease

Boy, 2.5 years, 36 inches, ridiculously cute, slightly used.

Will gladly accept return when he stops hitting, kicking, shoving, pushing, and stealing toys and thinks all of the above is top-notch comedy. Return also contingent on understanding concept of “time out” and not thinking it’s just a fun place to hang out, sing, and plan next act of defiance.
