December is our busiest time of year. The press is cranking non-stop, we’re shipping and printing and photographing and on and on. Needless to say, last year the days got away from us, and suddenly it was almost Christmas and we had no tree. We went one day after school on a cold and gloomy day. Hardly the holiday event I had hoped for.

This year, we were determined to get it done early. It was beautiful weather. The kids were in (mostly) good moods. We all agreed on a tree almost immediately. (We even picked one out for my parents to save them a trip.) There was even photographically documented skipping from Neko.

This year I am thankful that we finally found something to fill that empty space above the fireplace. Tom, Chris, and I all found it independently on the internet in a short span of time.

We decided it was fate telling us it needed to be ours. I mean, really, what kind of farm is it if you don’t have a deer head?

Its holiday photo time! We had a delightful morning over at Akiko’s house. I might have stuck around and played with Gregory’s Lego if he would have let me…

We’ve been meaning to do a blog for Wire & Twine for ages. We finally put it on the calendar and made it happen. We’ll do a little about Wire & Twine and a lot about a bunch of other stuff. Because, you know, you needed more ways to spend time on the internet!

See the beginnings here. Look for it to grow in the months to come…

Tom left for the weekend to go see the Pixies with Chris. In a few years, when the kids are older, I'll tag along on these events. I would have loved to see Kim, Kelley, Amy, and Kevin. When the kids get older, we’ll have a bit more freedom.

The kids were going to be stuck at home a good deal of the weekend while I completed some photo sessions, so I figured I should spring them out for a bit. Off to a hot air balloon show in the Big City with Nancy and Mary Beth in tow.

It was pretty spectacular. The kids would agree, but they would point out that climbing on that huge crumbling rock structure was way more fun.

    She’s the quiet one

I used to brag about Ellery.

She’s the quiet one. Easy as can be. Agreeable. Could take her anywhere.

And that’s still true. Compared to the other two, she’s downright docile. But those other two? I think late at night, when Tom and I are sleeping, they’re training her. We’re suddenly finding her jumping off the arm of the couch and giving us a furrowed brow as she stomps her foot. She’s in nearly a constant state of motion these days. For this reason, this is the best photo of her I’ve gotten in ages. Please. Stand. Still!

On a side note, happy birthday to my sister Susie!

Last week you wouldn’t have noticed this structure was here. It was buried behind overgrown honeysuckle and filled with decades of the previous owner’s junk.

We think it’s an old corn crib. We’ve been spending the last two weekends, between biking and playing in the unseasonably amazing weather, unearthing it.

We still have some work to do on it. Hauling away the remaining junk. Tearing down the partial fence that sits in front of it. Getting rid of the two ton concrete sink we found inside (that’s going to require the tractor).

But come spring, once we get it all fixed up, we might just find some folks to live in there. Some little things that go “cluck cluck”.
